The Veterans Service Commission is a state agency dedicated to aiding Ohio veterans during times of need.  There are two distinct services the agency provides.

Emergency financial assistance to eligible veterans and family members who have a demonstrated need.
Assistance when dealing with the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA).  The Veterans Service Commission represents and assists veterans, family members, and survivors when they apply to the DVA for benefits, with special emphasis on Veteran Compensation claims and Widows benefits.

Ohio is the only state that provides such comprehensive support and services to its veterans.  Each of Ohio's 88 counties has a board of five appointed commissioners who administer the program for their respective county.  Funds for operating expenses and benefits are provided through county real estate taxes.

The Ashland County Veterans Service Commission is located in the County Office building at

110 Cottage Street
Ashland, Ohio  44805

Our phone number is (419) 282-4225.

The purpose of the Veterans Service Commission is NOT to subsidize an unsatisfactory lifestyle.  Rather, it's to provide TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE to those who will make a conscientious effort to find a permanent solution to their financial problems.
